Devastated Hong Kong Locals Shocked as Major Fire Engulfs Residential Complexes

"Approaching the area, the warmth rises and you can feel it, with the smoke being very heavy."

University student a local student was among the many residents attracted to the site of a fatal inferno that engulfed large portions of the eight-block housing complex in the region's Tai Po area.

No fewer than thirty-six residents have lost their lives in the recent destructive blaze to date, with hundreds still unaccounted for, suggesting that this number will likely increase.

"This is a tragedy," the witness commented about the fire, adding that he had witnessed a deceased person being taken away from the area.

More than a 1,000 further residents were forced to leave the development as the flames advanced, with many heading to emergency facilities that have been established to accommodate them.

The fire is slowly being contained, but officials indicate they cannot determine when it will be completely eliminated.

Blazes could be witnessed emanating from individual apartments as countless residents watched in quiet.

An female resident stated that her acquaintances dwell inside the structure and she was waiting to hear if they were able to get out.

A long-term resident, who has lived in building number two of the residential estate for more than four decades years, recalled perceiving "an extremely loud sound" and observing blaze erupt in a close structure.

"I quickly went to my apartment to pack up my things," the 66-year-old resident stated.

"I cannot comprehend how I feel currently. I'm just considering about where I'm going to stay this evening because I probably will not go re-enter my residence."

Even though the source of the blaze that engulfed the multiple tall structures is still undetermined, the fire are believed to have spread quickly through the construction framework that covered the complexes, which were undergoing renovations.

Some people have demonstrated outrage that such a massive incident could have taken place and criticised the reaction.

"When there's a brush fire, they will utilize choppers and drop extinguishing materials, but why is there zero deployment and how can they leave further structures on fire?" inquired a different occupant of the complex.

"Our neighborhood is so proximate to the emergency response center and we believed the fire could be controlled soon, but currently the blaze has expanded. I'm so discouraged," she explained.

The woman mentioned that she had been offered minimal direction from the authorities on where to find support.

Several local residents had brought necessities to the affected individuals - including dozens of warm layers and thermal aids.

Upon questioning about their emotions regarding the tragedy, locals voiced that "authorities is unprepared" and that they were "profoundly devastated".

"We hope not to experience any more fatalities," commented a resident.

An elderly female who resides in an apartment in the affected blocks stated she was not at home when the blaze started but that she is worried about her home because it is without coverage.

"I'm profoundly distressed that I have no home to return to currently," she concluded.
