Diving into a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have discovered a variety of interesting independent titles. But, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a hero that is actually a piece of poop striving to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is simple: press a one button to leap. Throughout 150 levels, you'll face tough enemies and visit a shop to acquire skins for your fecal avatar.

Execute your jumps with caution, since one error forces restarting the level. Bounce on bubbles to propel your character upward, cross crumbling surfaces, and touch switches to open new areas. Earn coins to purchase challenging stages as the action gets crazy.

Graphically, the demo boasts neon level designs and a killer soundtrack. The retro visual style of shifting abstract forms may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to think of other games where you control a coiled turd, video games have long incorporated toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as plant food. Unsurprisingly, such content shows up extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, like being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on computers on November 19.
