Neighboring country Poland deployed fighter jets to guarantee the security of their national airspace, the Polish military stated. NATO partner planes were also deployed. Regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi confirmed two people were killed in strikes in the region, and an additional two injured. Elsewhere, Russian forces again targeted energy infrastructure - and a facility was hit in an overnight attack on Zaporizhzhia region, where the mayor reported an individual died and over seventy-three thousand residents were without electricity. Defensive Measures The Russian assaults came shortly following a US official indicated the US would endorse Ukraine launching deep strikes within Russia's borders. "Our and partner nations' jets are active in our airspace, while ground-based air defence and surveillance radars have been brought to the highest state of readiness," Poland's operational command stated. At 05:10, all of Ukraine was placed on high alert following air defense warnings of incoming aerial threats. Energy System Attacks Russia has intensified its assaults against Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The city's administration local officials reported part of the city - 43 miles from the Polish frontier - had lost electricity, adding that the local anti-aircraft units were engaged heavily in countering first a UAV and then a Russian missile attack. As of 07:30, parts of the city were experiencing outages and public transport was not operational, with authorities stressing that it was "dangerous to venture outdoors". In Zaporizhzhia, the nocturnal assault left "more than 73,000 consumers... without power", according to regional officials. An individual was fatally wounded, and nine injured, authorities confirmed. A 16-year-old girl was among those requiring hospital treatment, officials noted, releasing images apparently showing a partly destroyed apartment building and a burnt-out car from the impact location. Wider Consequences Municipal transit in Ivano-Frankivsk, would "start running later than usual" on Sunday, its city administration said. The series of attacks were part of Russia's threats against the entire nation overnight. At around early morning, Ukraine's Air Force said the entire territory was facing danger of fresh Russian missile attacks, following prolonged alert periods and notifications of aerial assaults. Occupied Regions Russian forces have taken control of most of Ukraine's eastern Donbas region, including key eastern cities. Russian authorities currently controls around one-fifth of Ukraine's land, including the Crimea region, which it seized in 2014. International Context In Russia, air defence units destroyed 32 Ukrainian drones overnight, media outlets stated on Sunday. Recently, a American diplomat indicated that the United States would back Ukrainian forces conducting long-range operations within Russia. Meanwhile, a different NATO country - the Baltic nation - had to close its airspace briefly after objects were spotted. Lithuania halted air traffic at its main international airport for multiple hours, before resuming operations at early morning on Sunday. The aviation authorities stated the operational pauses and reroutings were "because of a possible series of aerial objects heading toward Vilnius Airport".
